Ethical treatment of other creatures
![]() Dear Bwca, I’m writing today to thank you for being a part of Animals Australia’s lifesaving work—and to invite you to stay with us on this journey and renew your membership in 2009. With your help, our dedicated investigators and campaigners were able to achieve some remarkable victories for the most abused animals in this country, such as an unprecedented radio campaign that awoke a nation of radio listeners to the shocking cruelty of factory farming. We made national headlines when open letters from Animals Australia appeared in rural papers urging farmers not to export animals to the horror of the 2008 Festival of Sacrifice. Our cruelty investigations once again exposed Australia’s cruel live export trade on national television (which makes 11 prime-time exposés in recent years!). Animals Australia’s Action Network sent thousands of letters to industry and media, sparking positive action and sustaining a much needed voice for animals in the minds of decision makers. And the list goes on… Animals Australia is the only national organisation that actively exposes animal abuse and promotes a cruelty-free lifestyle. There could be no greater time of need for this than now. As an animal cruelty investigator, I have personally witnessed the scale of abuse that Australian industries are responsible for. And it is Animals Australia that these cruel industries fear, knowing that our small team has the courage, commitment and determination needed to expose cruel practices and to inspire lasting change. This vital work cannot be achieved without the financial support of people who care, such as you. By renewing your membership today, or pledging a monthly donation and becoming a ‘Frontliner for Animals’, you will be providing the crucial support that will enable us to continue to expose cruelty and create a kinder world for all animals. We cannot do it without your help. Please stay with us in 2009! Comments: Hey BWCA Brownie, thanks for the blog comments! I am indeed a Deneuve fan, and I have seen "The April Fools." Jack Lemmon is my classic celebrity crush, and I love him in this movie, though "The Apartment" takes the cake for me. You really should give Madame Bovary a try one of these days, although the last half of the book really is quite depressing. I've finished it but can't bring myself to write a blog about it just yet. Discussing her moral and mental decline is not nearly as much fun as writing about her earlier days when she was romantic and hopeful. Very quotable book, either way. And isn't "Charlie Parker" the best blog out there? The variety of images they find never ceases to amaze me...
